Lessons in a studio setting

I am renting the Burlington Baptist Church and running my own programme. Please do not contact the church regarding my lesson programme. I handle all the details regarding the lessons.

No registration fee or other hidden costs. Lesson price includes facility rental for the use of a studio room.

Service spectrum

Private lessons for flute, saxophone and clarinet. I work with students of all levels of ability. Absolute beginners are especially welcome to study with me. I will work with students who want help with their classroom studies or amateur musicians who want to work on repertoire for their chosen ensemble. I prepare more advanced students for university entrance auditions or RCM exams.

Lessons in your home

A reasonable travel allowance is added to my normal lesson fee. The allowance is based on your location. I look forward to discussing this aspect of my service with you and will quote you a price once I have more details.

Please reference my online lessons page for my thoughts and overview of this method of music study.

Payment terms

You can pay for each month of lessons at the first lesson of each month. You can also pay for a whole term of lessons if that is easier.

Please reference my lesson schedule for the current season. I have arranged the teaching season into three terms from September to June, plus a Summer term for students interested in continuing their lessons.

I also have specific payment schedules for each month. These payment schedules depend on which day of the week your lesson is scheduled.

Weather cancellation

I will assess the weather situation and aim to decide by 3 pm on the day of the lesson. I will notify you by email, text or phone call if lessons will be cancelled due to weather. If I decide to cancel lessons due to weather, I will give you a credit for the cancellation. The credit for the lesson will be added to the upcoming month or term.

Withdrawing from studies

If you decide to discontinue your lessons, just let me know and finish your studies at the end of the month or term that has already been paid. There are no refunds for months or terms that have been paid.

Cancellation

There are no refunds or make-ups for lessons cancelled by the student. This includes student illness or vacations taken outside of school holidays. Please notify your teacher if the student will be absent. Considerations for a makeup lesson may be given on rare occasions if a special or unusual circumstance causes a student to miss a lesson.

Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled.

Guelph School of Music

I have joined the teaching faculty of the Guelph School of Music (GSM). The GSM is a well-established school of music which is now part of the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) family. The GYMC is an excellent facility that has a vibrant atmosphere. The GYMC offers a great diversity of artistic programmes. If you would like to study with me in Guelph through the GSM, I would be delighted to see you at the GYMC. To learn more about the GSM, please visit their website, which is guelphschoolofmusic.ca

Please note that if you register for lessons with the GSM, you agree to their administration, payment and lesson policies.

About Burlington Baptist Church

The Burlington Baptist Church is a very accommodating institution. My students enjoy meeting at this location. Here is some information about entering and using the BBC (Burlington Baptist Church), as well as a few reminders for attending your scheduled lesson:

BURLINGTON BAPTIST CHURCH
2225 New Street
Burlington ON L7R 1J2

YOUTH ROOM –- Located on the upper-level main floor at the end of the hall

The church is located at the corner of New Street and Bridgman (just west of Drury Lane and the Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home)

MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT (including Reeds etc.), STUDY BOOKS AND SHEET MUSIC TO ALL YOUR LESSONS !!

PARKING –
Students and parents should refrain from using neighbouring business parking lots.

Parking is available at the rear of the church along the back fence. If you park along the fence, you must park parallel with the fence; otherwise, you will be blocking the driveway. Please do not park in the enclosed gate area.

Parking is also available on Bridgman Street (the church is on the corner of New and Bridgman). Street parking is free, and you have at least a 3-hour limit - don’t park too close to the fire hydrant (as per City bylaw). The Brant Children’s Centre (Day Care) also rents the BBC and uses the parking lot until 6 pm.

ENTRANCE – PLEASE NOTE THE SPECIAL STUDENT ENTRANCE ARRANGEMENTS
Use the sliding doors that are on the EAST SIDE of the building. These doors face Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home. The driveway for the church goes right past these doors and gives access to and from New Street.

Building access is similar to entering an apartment building. This gives excellent security and controls building access.

If the doors do not open automatically for you, use the intercom on the left side of these doors. Push the button to buzz me and wait for me to answer you. I will then trigger for the sliding door to open. If you arrive and the doors open automatically, do not bother to buzz me on the intercom; just come right in.

Proceed along the Lower Level Hallway and go UP the flight of stairs (a total of 10 steps). Turn Right at the top and proceed down a short hall. You will find the Youth Room and me.

EXIT – Please exit the building the same way you came in, using the SAME DOOR you used for entrance.

LESSON ROOM – The room we are using is called the YOUTH ROOM. It is at the end of the Upper-Level Hall.

WAITING AREA – There is a waiting area with seating in the Upper-Level Hall. Parents can wait here.

WASHROOMS – There are multi-purpose washrooms for ladies and men in the Lower Level Hall near the sliding door entrance. There is also a ladies’ washroom beside the Youth Room where the lessons are held.
